The Question

How can I file a complaint against workplace harassment?

1 Answer from Verified Lawyers

If you have experienced workplace harassment, you should report the matter to your employer or the organization's designated grievance mechanism. In cases of sexual harassment, every eligible employer is required to constitute an Internal Committee (IC) under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

You should preserve all available evidence, including emails, messages, recordings (where legally permissible), witness details, and any other relevant documents. If the employer fails to address the complaint appropriately, you may approach the Local Committee or other competent authorities, depending on the nature of the complaint.

Every complaint should be handled confidentially, and retaliation against the complainant is prohibited under the law.

Disclaimer: The legal remedy depends on the type of harassment, available evidence, and the facts of each case. Seeking legal advice at an early stage is recommended.
